The Longhorn Council’s annual Waco Silver Eagle Luncheon honors a distinguished citizen whose leadership, service, and commitment have made a lasting impact on the Greater Waco community. This year, the Longhorn Council is proud to recognize Dr. Johnette Edwards McKown, President of McLennan Community College, as the 2027 Waco Silver Eagle Award recipient. Each year, business leaders, community partners, and Scouting supporters gather to recognize an individual who exemplifies integrity, servant leadership, and a dedication to improving the lives of others. Proceeds from the luncheon help provide life-changing Scouting programs that prepare young people to become the next generation of leaders and engaged citizens.
Dr. Johnette Edwards McKown
Dr. Johnette Edwards McKown has dedicated more than three decades to advancing higher education and strengthening the Waco community. Since becoming the third president of McLennan Community College in 2009, she has championed student success through initiatives supporting first-generation students, honors programs, emergency assistance, food security, and university partnerships that expand educational opportunities.
A respected educator and higher education leader, Dr. McKown has also served Baylor University, the Texas Association of Community Colleges, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Beyond the classroom, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community service through leadership with the Waco Business League, Waco Family Medicine Foundation, Rotary Club of Waco, and numerous nonprofit organizations. Her lifelong dedication to education, volunteerism, and developing future leaders makes her a fitting recipient of the 2027 Waco Silver Eagle Award.
