Week 6 - Finalize and Lock In Your Fall Recruitment Dates

Longhorn Council Summer Recruitment Series: Week 6

Finalize and Lock In Your Fall Recruitment Dates
July 6 – July 12, 2026

Your partnerships are forming and your program calendar is in place. The most important action right now is choosing and confirming the exact dates for your fall recruitment events so every other preparation can align around them.

Welcome to Week 6 of our 2026 Longhorn Council Summer Recruitment Planning Series. This week puts the spotlight on selecting and securing the specific dates that will drive your unit’s fall success.

What to Do This Week (July 6–July 12)

1. Review the Recommended Fall Recruitment Window

Compare the recommended recruitment timeline with your local school and community calendars. Identify the best dates for your primary Join Night or open house, along with a second-chance event shortly afterward.

2. Select and Propose Concrete Dates

Share your preferred dates with your chartered organization, linked units, and recruitment team to gather input and ensure everyone is aligned before making them official.

3. Confirm the Dates and Add Them to Every Shared Calendar

Once finalized, place your recruitment events on all unit, district, and organization calendars so promotion, volunteer scheduling, and event logistics can move forward with confidence.

Tips for Success

  • Choose a mix of weekday evenings and weekend options to give busy families more opportunities to attend.
  • Schedule a second-chance event one to two weeks after your primary Join Night so families who miss the first event still have an easy opportunity to join.
  • Check for conflicts with school sports, community festivals, or religious observances that could reduce attendance.
  • Share your confirmed dates with Longhorn Council as early as possible so your unit can be included in area-wide recruitment promotion efforts.

By the End of July 12, You Should Have:

✅ Confirmed dates for your primary fall Join Night or open house
✅ A scheduled second-chance recruitment event
✅ Recruitment dates added to all shared calendars
✅ A clear timeline that allows promotion, volunteer planning, and event logistics to move forward

Firm recruitment dates provide the foundation for every successful fall campaign. By locking them in now, your unit can confidently begin promoting events, recruiting volunteers, and preparing an outstanding experience for every new Scout family.
