Longhorn Council Summer Recruitment Series: Week 5
With your recruitment team gaining momentum, clear goals in place, and a draft program calendar ready, the next powerful step is activating the community relationships that open doors for new families.
Welcome to Week 5 of our 2026 Longhorn Council Summer Recruitment Planning Series. This week centers on intentional outreach to the chartered organizations and schools that already serve the families you want to reach.
What to Do This Week (June 29–July 5)
1. Connect Directly with Your Chartered Organization Representatives
Set up focused conversations to explore how they can actively support your fall recruitment efforts through facility access, newsletter space, announcements, and personal endorsements within their circles.
2. Contact Elementary School Leaders for Scout Talks and Information Tables
Reach out to principals, counselors, and PTA groups to propose short, engaging presentations and staffed information tables at back-to-school nights or similar family events.
3. Put Every Agreement in Writing
Document dates, responsibilities, and expectations clearly, and complete any required background checks or approvals early so everything is in place before the busy fall season begins.
Tips for Success
- Start school outreach right away because administrative calendars fill quickly during early summer.
- Frame your Scout Talk as an exciting, no-cost way to support school goals around student growth and family connection.
- Ask your District Executive for recommended school contacts and approaches that have already worked well for other units in the area.
- Secure written confirmations so everyone knows exactly what is expected and your dates stay protected.
By the End of July 5, You Should Have:
✅ Active support from your chartered organization for fall recruitment
✅ Confirmed Scout Talk opportunities or information tables with local schools
✅ Written agreements documenting dates, responsibilities, and expectations
✅ Required approvals or background check requirements completed or underway
Strong partnerships with chartered organizations and local schools create valuable opportunities to introduce Scouting to new families. Investing time in these relationships now will make your fall recruitment events more successful and help your unit reach more youth throughout your community.
Stay tuned for Week 6 (July 6–12): Choosing and Confirming Your Fall Recruitment Dates.
Happy Scouting!
