About the Honorees

John Sellers and Cody Campbell are co-founders and co-chief executive officers of Double Eagle Energy, a Fort Worth–based upstream exploration and production company that has been among the most active operators in the Permian Basin over the past decade. Since founding Double Eagle, the partners have assembled hundreds of thousands of acres and completed billions of dollars in transactions.

Both graduates of Texas Tech University, Sellers (B.A. Economics, ’04) and Campbell (B.B.A. Finance and Economics, M.S. Finance), first partnered as students and launched a real estate venture in Lubbock. In 2008, they exited the real estate business and formed Double Eagle, applying their entrepreneurial experience to the oil and gas industry. Under their leadership, Double Eagle has grown into one of the most successful exploration and development platforms in the country.

Today, both remain active in business and philanthropy while living in Fort Worth with their families.

Longhorn Council, Scouting America, is proud to continue a long-standing tradition of recognizing leaders whose character and commitment strengthen the Fort Worth metropolitan community. For more than three decades, the Distinguished Citizen Award Luncheon has honored individuals whose lives reflect the values of the Scout Oath and Law, including integrity, service, and leadership.
We are privileged to honor Cody Campbell and John Sellers of Double Eagle Energy at our 2026 luncheon. Their entrepreneurial vision and steadfast commitment to the community exemplify the kind of principled leadership that creates lasting opportunity. The event will feature a moderated discussion with our honorees, offering a rare look at how these two Texas natives turned the ‘Landman’ spirit into a modern-day realization of the American Dream.

As the Council’s premier corporate development event, this luncheon brings together business and civic leaders who believe in preparing the next generation. Support from our underwriters, sponsors, and donors ensures that youth across North and Central Texas have access to life-changing Scouting programs. We invite you to join us as we celebrate outstanding leadership and invest in the future of our community.
