LHC Eagle Scout, Dylan Mitchell, Completes All 137 Merit Badges

Congratulations to Longhorn Council Eagle Scout, Dylan Mitchell, from Heart O’ Texas District Troop 444 for completing all 137 merit badges before the age of 18 in April 2021. He has officially aged out as a youth but he accomplished his Scouting goals.

In 2019  he joined the 8% of Scouts who earn the rank of Eagle Scout. The process is not easy but BSA provides a guide to earning the highest rank for those who wish to join elite company.

Kevin Lane, Heart O’ Texas District Executive, introduced me to Dylan’s dad, Ian Mitchell, who is very proud of his son’s accomplishments and takes little credit.  “It’s quite and honor for him to do that (complete all 137 merit badges) and I am astounded with the amount of work it took.  It’s a tribute to his dedication to lifelong learning and Scouting,” said our proud Eagle Scout’s dad.

He even posted this about his son on the troop’s Facebook page, shared here with permission:

Yesterday, marks the end of Dylan’s scouting career as a youth, as he ages out. He set two goals early on to earn his Eagle Scout Award and earn all 137 merit badges. Two weeks ago he finished his last merit badge, scuba driving, completing a seven year journey. It has taken him to multiple merit badge colleges and clinics in and outside of the state. He also participated in summer camps, traditionally and virtually, in eight different states.
During his tenure he has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, Patrol Leader, Bugler, and Den Chief. In 2019 he was a delegate for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree, serving as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader for his contingent. He had the opportunity to visit the National Scout Jamboree in 2017 and participated in The 2018 National Order of The Arrow Conference (Scouting Honor Society) held at Indiana University.
He was elected to the Order of The Arrow, by his peers, where he served as Chapter Secretary, Chapter Chief and Lodge Secretary. He is a Vigil Honor Member. While in the lodge he has participated on numerous ceremony teams for lodge events and conclaves.
In 2019 Dylan earned his Eagle Scout Award, by creating The Outdoor Classroom of China Spring Intermediate School.

We thank the Mitchell family for sharing this success story with us.  We are proud of you Dylan!
