Become a Hunter Education Instructor!

Presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department

Drive out for the day and become a Hunter Education Instructor! Adults attending a camporee or event at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch or Worth Ranch that weekend are also welcome.

Free. Bring a lunch.


  • Must be at least 21.
  • Must be a Graduate of a state-certified Hunter Education course. (Bring card if out of state).
    • You’ve already taken the Hunter Education course;
    • Take the self-study online course option and finish it in our class on Saturday, April 11 ($15 fee);
    • Take the adult online course option through an outside vendor.


Some cabins may be available for rental at Lakeview Lodge for Fri. or Sat. night.

Instructor Responsibilities

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, of reasonably good health, high integrity, pass a written examination and submit to an oral interview by a game warden. A criminal background check will be conducted and those failing to meet certain standards may be denied certification.
  • Hunter Education Instructors are responsible to the Hunter Education Staff of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
  • Volunteers will instruct students of all ages in the Hunter Education program as prescribed by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
  • In order to maintain instructor status, instructors must certify five or more students annually. Failure to meet this minimum requirement will result in inactive status.
  • Instructors must graduate from a state-certified Hunter Education student course in addition to the Department’s Instructor Training Workshop.
    Voluntary in-service workshops are provided by the Department on a yearly basis.

Every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Training Course. Minimum age of Hunter Ed certification is 9 years of age.
