Easy Tips for Keeping Energy Levels High While Hiking
Whether you’re out with your family or at our high adventure camp, hiking can be a great way to get outdoors and get the blood flowing. There are numerous steps that you take to increase your energy levels before you go hiking. You may eat a light meal or put on comfortable clothing. Just as importantly, follow a few steps to maintain your energy levels while you’re on the trail.
Eat the Right Foods
Eat lightly in between breaks, but you must consume the right foods. Superfoods are alleged or proven to contain exceptionally healthy ingredients. There are many myths involving superfoods; however, some foods with this label, such as kale, berries and chia seeds, contain many health benefits. Kale is a rich source of Vitamin K, and chia seeds are full of B vitamins. According to Kyani, berries are an excellent source of antioxidants.
Avoid consuming too many carbs and sugars. The sugar from a granola bar or energy drink is a good, instant source of energy, but too much of it causes drowsiness. Eating excessive carbs also causes weight gain that is not ideal for hikers. Fruits, dried meats, and nuts give you the same amounts of energy as sugary snacks.
Take Frequent Breaks
It’s important to test your hiking strength and endurance, but you must allow the body to rest. Some people can hike for two hours straight without taking a break, but in the end, their feet and legs get worn out more quickly. To make your body last longer on the trail, take frequent breaks for 5 to 15 minutes.
Take along a water bottle and take sips throughout the hike. Water hydrates the body and improves your ability to continue walking. Take sips instead of large gulps that causes your bladder to overload during the hike.
Perform stretches during your breaks. Yoga is designed to relieve stress and increase muscular strength all over the body. Stretch the parts of the body that you need to hike well.
Practice Deep Breathing
Take advantage of the fresh air that you experience while outdoors. Practice deep breathing techniques to relax more and feel less tense as you walk. Practice a few times every day to breathe more easily and last longer on the trail.
Hiking is supposed to be fun, but it’s not much excitement if you get tired quickly. Know which supplies to bring if you want to remain alert and resilient during a hike. With enough patience and preparation, keep your energy levels high to hike for hours without fatigue.
