Congratulations to the 2019 Distinguished Commissioner Service Award Honorees

On behalf of our Longhorn Council Scouters, Board members, Charter Organization Partners, LHC Staff, Council Commissioner, and friends- we say thank you and congratulations to our latest group of Longhorn Council Distinguished Commissioner Service Award honorees.  Commissioners are the “Scouting glue” who keep units together and help them reach their goals.  Let’s take a look at our awardees.  Drum roll please…

The 2019 Longhorn Council Distinguished Commissioner Service Award Honorees

Lance Cromwell              Chisholm Trail District

Dave Thilges                    Pathfinder District

Cindy Thompson            Orion District

John Hearrell                  Mustang District (now serving Orion District)

Tessa McKee                   Brazos Valley District

Again, we congratulate and recognize our local heroes for their tireless efforts.

Let’s see why a “Commissioner” is a vital volunteer for a unit to be in touch with.  For those who don’t know, they will learn the importance of a Unit Commissioner’s role.  We know our professional Scouters, the DE’s and the entire LHC Field Team, are only a phone call or an email away for anyone in their district.  What some folks don’t realize is that the unit leaders and District Executives rely heavily on the Unit Commissioner otherwise known as the “friend of the unit.”

From our BSA National Scouting website’s Commissioners page:

OUR MISSION

As commissioners, we share the BSA’s mission: To prepare youth to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

OUR VISION

Every member of the BSA has a great Scouting experience.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  1. Supporting unit growth and retention through the journey to excellence.
  2. Contacting units and capturing in commissioner tools their strengths, needs, and a unit service plan that enables continuing improvement.
  3. Linking unit needs to district operating committee and other resources.
  4. Supporting timely unit, district, and council charter renewals.
  5. Supporting unit leaders by collecting and distributing information, enabling program training, and providing networking opportunities.

Your District Executive (Professional Scouter) or LHC Council Commissioner, Ken Gordon, can help you get in touch with your Unit Commissioner.  Who knows- perhaps you can join the team and become a local hero by being a Longhorn Council Commissioner.

The Longhorn Council Commissioner, Ken Gordon, is a volunteer who oversees and leads all of the individual scout units in our area
