Brazos Valley Troop 76 provides comforting Honor Guard in Weatherford
Shaun Driscoll, Longhorn Council Eagle Scout from the class of 1980, had a bittersweet homecoming to Weatherford, Texas. Shaun’s father, Dick Driscoll, who grew up in Weatherford, recently passed away.
Funerals are never easy to plan and are obviously sad occurrences. In this case, there were a few more factors to consider during the planning of a respectful funeral for Mr. Driscoll, who was a Navy Veteran. Shaun now lives in Denver so long-distance arrangements didn’t make life any easier.
The COVID-19 pandemic had made funerals harder for families since they could not invite family and friends to attend until recently. With the easing of restrictions, most communities can now hold funerals with certain safety measures in place.
Longhorn Council’s Troop 76 stepped up to help when they were needed the most. Brazos Valley District Executive, Tim Calkins, was contacted by Shaun who wanted to know if his former Troop 76 could provide the Honor Guard. The answer was yes and within one week they all made it happen. Special thanks goes out to Tessa McKee who organized the Honor Guard.
The funeral was Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Chapel in Weatherford with interment at DFW National Cemetery. We will keep Mr. Dick Driscoll in our thoughts and prayers.
We thank Brazos Valley District’s Troop 76 for their service during this difficult time in Shaun Driscoll’s life. “This is what Scouts do” and why we are proud to be members of this movement. Shaun is still involved in Scouting and is the Cubmaster for a Pack in the Denver area.
We are proud that our LHC Scouts from Troop 76 could provide the Honor Guard and be with this Longhorn Council Eagle Scout and his family.
Yours in Scouting,
