Advancement News is the official e-letter of the Boy Scouts of America National Advancement Program Team

Longhorn Council Commissioner, Ken Gordon, reminds us that updates for advancement policies and procedures can be followed by subscribing to the BSA “Advancement News.”  Here is his scoop on this opportunity:

Are you interested in or involved with advancement policies and procedures? Then Advancement News is the one BSA e-letter you should subscribe to. Advancement News is the official e-letter of the Boy Scouts of America National Advancement Program Team. Advancement News, which is emailed bi-monthly,  is produced and written by volunteers for volunteers. Its intent is to support and clarify policies and procedures found in the Guide to Advancement, announce various changes and updates in advancement, and assist advancement committees and individuals in making decisions that can help increase the rate of advancement.


Each easy to read issue of Advancement News includes a wide range of short articles covering topics such as training opportunities for advancement administrators, advancement committee mechanics, Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Sea Scout advancement, Venturing awards, merit badges, Eagle Scout rank issues, special needs and much more. Feedback, suggestions, and letters to the editor are welcome at [email protected].


Advancement News is designed for council and district advancement committee members, advancement staff advisors, unit leaders and unit advancement administrators; however, anyone is welcome to subscribe. Volunteers, professionals and parents will all find useful and interesting information in each issue. Still not sure if you want to subscribe? When you are ready to subscribe send an e-mail message to [email protected], with “SUBSCRIBE” in the subject line. Include your name, email address, and council in the message text. That’s all it takes and you will start receiving Advancement News with the next issue.
