2008 Update - Show n Sell is underway. Call Michael Wright at
817-231-8507 should you need some more product. Take Order orders
are due April 21st. Email to mwright@longhorn.org
or fax to Michael at 817-231-8600.
A Unit Summary Form will be emailed to each unit leader the week

We
have 97 units choosing to use the Nuts for Scouting System to aid
their boys going to summer camps by having a means for them to raise
their own money to attend.
Show N Sell items will arrive April 3rd. Units may pick the nuts
up Thursday night April 3 or on Friday April 4 from the Hurst Service
Center and the Waco Service Center.
Ask any questions via email to mwright@longhorn.org.
How
does the Scout Show Spring Fundraiser work?
I.
Make a Commitment
To make a commitment to sell Nuts, simply complete the Unit Commitment
Card found on the Flyer. The Unit Commitment Flyer can be accessed
from the website, www.longhorncouncil.org. After receiving the commitment
card the council will email to the unit contact the Leader's Guide.
II.
Materials
Materials are ready for pick up at the March Roundtable or by special
arrangements or by coming to the Hurst or Waco Service Centers.
Pick up the take order forms, receipt cards, and unit summary order
form. If you are doing a Show N Sell, and its strongly recommended,
complete a Spring Order Form and email or fax or hand in this form
to the Council. Your product will be delivered to two locations:
one in the Southern section of the Council TBA soon, and one in
the Metroplex.
III.
Selling the Nuts
There are two effective methods for selling the Nuts.
1)
Show N Sell: Order several cases of the nuts to display at
a QT or Blockbuster, etc.. Make a display sign advertising your
Scouting Unit and showing pictures of your boys at camp. Boys and
Camp sell-use this and display this. Order your Nuts by March 17th
by emailing your Order form to mwright@longhorn.org,
or fax it to 817-231-8600, or calling 817-231-8561 to Kathy McLean.
NOTE: this product will come during your Take Order process. YOU
are to take any unsold Nut containers and use that to fill your
Take Orders
DO NOT forget to deduct this from the Take Order
you make in April to the Council. The product is not returnable.
To make this successful, we suggest you have the boys do the selling
away from the table; have the boys go out and greet customers and
walk them back to the display table. The start by saying "
Hi, I'm (Name) and I am a Scout with (Unit name and chartering organization).
I'm trying to earn my own money to attend summer camp. Can you help
me attend summer camp?" Schedule 2 boys per two hour shift
in a high traffic area. Take the sales for that shift and divide
by 2 to arrive at the credited sales for each boy.
2)
Take Order: Pickup your take order forms at the March Roundtable.
You should brief your boys and parents then get started. Boys work
best when they are doing this as part of their Scouting program.
So, as a Den or as a Patrol, select an appropriate neighborhood
and walk the street contacting potential customers. The same script
illustrated above will work here too. YOU already have potential
CUSTOMERS! The individuals who purchased popcorn from the boys have
already shown they are interested in supporting Boy Scouts. Thank
them for supporting the Unit in its Fall Sale. Ask them now to help
send you to summer camp by purchasing these delicious Nuts.
3) Collect the Money upfront: To speed the camp payment process,
collect the money upfront. This will also allow you to repay Mom
and Dad quicker for their fronting the deposit and payment for camp
regardless if its in council or out of council. HAND A RECEIPT CARD
to the customer as they pay. Leaders will need to fill in the unit
number, and the pickup time and phone number to complete the Receipt
Card. This is their claim ticket for the product ordered.
4) Central Pick up Location: We recommend establishing a central
product pickup location for your customers. You will need to call
or send post card notes to remind your customers to pick up at the
specific location. The church parking lot is a good spot on Sunday
afternoon between 2 and 4 or 3 to 5 pm. Organize your operation
to maximize time and eliminate the customers from having to leave
their cars. Place on the receipt card the date, time, and place
for the product pickup. PRODUCT WILL BE IN YOUR HANDS BY MAY 8TH
OR 9TH. We suggest setting your pickup for May 18th, Sunday afternoon
at the church.
IV.
Payment Due
You will collect payment for the product upfront either in the Show
N Sell or in the Take Order. Your commission, or more exactly we
suggest the Boys' commission for his camp fee, is in your hands.
Your commission is 30% with a bonus of 5% if your unit is conducting
a booth at the Scout Show held on May 10th in the Fort Worth Stockyards.
We suggest the boys selling be "required" to attend as
part of completing the "earning their way".
Payment
is the remainder of your original order for Show N Sell and Take
Order combined minus the 30 or 35% commission. We will send to the
unit contact's email an invoice. Contact us if there is a discrepancy
otherwise the unit will be expected to settle their account in full
on the following dates: May 8 or 9th at product pickup, or at the
Scout Show on May 10th. Payment may also be made prior at the Waco
or Hurst Service centers. Please bring your copy of the emailed
invoice with your payment. Payment is expected for the amount ordered,
minus the commission. You may continue to sell any unsold product
until completed as you wish.

or to your District Executive.
SUGGESTED SHOW N SELL ORDER
Orders
are made by the case. Each case contains 12 containers of Nuts.
Past experience is the best judge of your need. Use the Popcorn
experience to guide you. Order half of your goal to do the Show
N Sell. Example: your goal is to sell $2000. Order 7 cases of Nuts.
In Popcorn we found that average units would sell more than $1000
in a six hour shift in a high traffic zone. Because the Nuts are
lower priced than some of the upper-end popcorn tins, you'll find
the Show N Sell moves faster.
