Cub Scout Family Camping Policy

In order to meet BSA standards, Cub Scout Pack Family camp-outs must include a Baloo and a YPT certified leaders and must be held at a facility that has been inspected and approved by the Council Camping Committee. Unit leaders may assume personal liability for campouts that are not conducted at an approved facility or that do not follow BSA policies. Camp Rangers will not allow Packs set up camp without a Baloo or YPT certified leader onsite. The Longhorn Council Camping Committee has approved 22 locations for Cub Scout Pack Family Camping. The following is the Longhorn Council’s Family Camping Policy.
1. Family camp-outs may be conducted TWICE per year, in addition to participation in Council activities.

2. Pack Family Camping at Council activities does NOT count toward the limit of two outings per year. These include Fall Festival, Cub-O, Cub Family Adventures, Webelos Woods, and Cub Resident Camp.

3. Family camp-outs may include one family or a group of families from the same unit.

4. Family camp-outs are to involve fun-filled, no-pressure, non-competitive activities which include participation by family members and siblings. Cub Scout activities should not include advancement for advancement’s sake.

5. At least one adult from the Pack who is attending a campout must have completed BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) and Youth Protection Training. The person(s) holding BALOO and YPT certification must be present at the family campout the entire time.

6. Family Camping reflects the Longhorn Council's commitment to offer a progressive Scouting program with age-appropriate camping activities. The goal of the pack camping activity is to provide a successful Pack camping outing that is:
1. Fun
2. Based on the purposes of Cub Scouting.
3. Successful in whetting the appetite of the Cub Scouts, his parents, and the leaders to want more of the outdoors.

II. Family camp-outs may include one family or a group of families from the same unit.

III. Family camp-outs may be conducted twice per year, in addition to participation in Council activities such as Webelos Woods, Resident Camp, Beach Festival and Family Adventure Camps.

IV.  Family camp-outs are to involve fun-filled, no-pressure, non-competitive activities which include participation by family members and siblings. Cub Scout activities should not include advancement for advancement's sake.

V. At least one adult from the Pack must have completed BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) and Youth Protection Training. The person holding BALOO and YPT certification must be present at the family campout the entire time. 

7. Family camp-outs conducted as part of a Scouting program must be held at a facility that has been inspected and approved by the council camping committee to meet BSA Standards. Unit leaders may assume personal liability for campouts not conducted at an approved facility. Camps currently approved for Family Camping are:

5. Camp Shuman, Lake Worth
6. Hills and Hollows, Denton
7. Dinosaur Valley State Park, Glen Rose
8. Lake Whitney State Park, Whitney
9. Meridian State Park, Meridian
10. Cedar Hill State Park, Duncanville
11. Fort Parker State Park, Mexia
12.Ray Roberts Lake State Parks - Isle du Bois Unit, Pilot Point
13. Ray Roberts Lake State Parks - Johnson Branch Unit, Valley View
14. Cleburne State Park, Cleburne
15. Fort Richardson State Park, Jacksboro
16. Camp Barnette, Lion’s Club, Southlake *
