Spend
a week learning to wakeboard! The Steele Island Wakeboarding Program
is a weeklong boarding and water skiing program for older Scouts,
Venturers, and adults on beautiful Lake Bridgeport at Sid Richardson
Scout Ranch (SR2). The program will focus on developing your wakeboarding
skills, and teaching Water Skiing Merit Badge for those who need it.

Well have expert staff to help you learn this fast growing sport
on some of the best wind-protected skiing and boarding water in the
state. With a much larger surface area to ride on, wakeboards are
easier than water skis for beginners to learn. Experienced riders
can do exciting jumps and tricks!! Space is limited to 24 participants.
Youll report to our marina every morning at first light and
wakeboard and ski until lunch. Afternoons are free for merit badges
in the main camp area, or swimming or blobbing ... or sleep. Youll
report back again in the evening right after supper and board until
dark. Expect to crash and burn a lot, and to improve your skills significantly
by the end of the week! You can earn Water Skiing merit badge along
the way if you want to. You will also take part in our Ultimate Tubing
Wars Competition.
Well provide all boats, boards, skis, tubes, lifejackets, and
all program equipment. Participants with personal equipment must have
their gear inspected by the staff before use.
Wakeboarding instruction is available only to participants in the
Steele Island and Chisholm Trail programs. Water Skiing Merit Badge
is available only to participants in the Steele Island program.
Participants
All participants must be at least 13 years old or graduates of 7th
grade and must pass the BSA Swimmers Test at camp or in an approved
Pre-Camp Swim Test (see our website for details). Participants who
are unable to pass the BSA Swimmers Test will be enrolled in
the traditional program and will not receive a refund. Participants
in the Steele Island program must be part of a unit camping at a Longhorn
Council camp.
Participants from SR2 will camp with their units in our base camp.
Camping arrangements will be made at SR2 for Steele Island participants
from units at Worth Ranch or Camp Tahuaya, but units must make their
own transportation arrangements to and from SR2.
Wakeboard
School
Wakeboard School is a separate week-long intensive training program
designed to develop intermediate to advanced wakeboarding skills.
Participants wakeboard all day long and stay in our modern cabins
at Lakeview Lodge on Lake Bridgeport. See the section on Wakeboard
School.
