Sid
Richardson Scout Ranch (SR2) is a Texassize camp with Texassized
adventure programs and lots of history - 2,500 acres of scenic cliffs,
open prairie, heavy forests, and 16 miles of rugged shoreline on Lake
Bridgeport just west of Decatur. The historic 1870s U.S. Cavalry
outpost site is a centerpiece of our Chisholm Trail Adventure program.
The Devils Den cliffs were a hideout for the famous outlaw Sam
Bass. Our working Blacksmiths Shop, Country Store, museum, saloon,
and Post Office are official Texas landmarks relocated with their
original artifacts from Vineyard, Texas.
SR2 offers a newly expanded air-conditioned dining hall and traditional
Scout Camp programs including the Trail to First Class firstyear
camper program, an outstanding Climbing tower and climbing cliffs,
a horseback program, theWater Park Fun Dock, Small Boat Sailing, windsurfing,
and a sporting clays range for shotgun merit badge, as well as Mile
Swim, Snorkeling BSA, and BSA Lifeguard.

Trail
to First Class Program
A new Scouts first summer camp experience is a great indicator
of how long he will stay in Scouting. If he has a great experience
he is much more likely to stay in Scouting and in your troop for a
long time to come! Trail to First Class is intended to supplement
the Troops skills development training and give young Scouts
an introduction to Scoutings exciting outdoor program. It is
not designed to make Scouts First Class during one week of camp -
its designed to be FUN!
The Patrol Method is at the heart of our Trail to First Class program,
in order to prepare young Scouts to be an integral part of their own
troops program. The activities planned for the program include
many of the requirements from Tenderfoot through First Class.
Climbing
and Rappelling
Vertical Fun! Climb on our state of the art climbing tower and our
rugged cliffs. The camp provides all helmets, ropes, and climbing
equipment. We offer Climbing MB, and daily climbing programs.
Shotgun
MB & Sporting Clays Range
Shotgun Merit Badge is offered in the afternoons (only) on our Chisholm
Trail Adventure sporting clays range. We have 6 Briley Matarelli electric
throwers that each hold 300 clay pigeons. Our course is a modified
National Sporting Clays Association "5-Stand." Our range
set-up enables us to throw considerably more clay pigeons and shoot
more shells than at a normal summer camp shotgun range. Participants
may shoot additional practice rounds for an extra fee. The course
is off limits in the mornings and evenings during Chisholm Trail Adventure
program.
Water
Park: The Blobs!
The Water Fun Dock at SR2 features two Blobs, water volleyball, a
water slide, and other adventures. The Water Park is open in the evenings
and late afternoons to campers from SR2, and is a primary part of
Chisholm Trail Adventure.
Sailing Base
Our Chisholm Trail Sailing Base offers Sailing Merit Badge and Windsurfing
BSA Award classes in the morning for Scouts at summer camp. Evening
sailing is available several nights each week.
Pack
and Paddle Overnights
For a great overnighter, troops may request canoes and paddle to a
campsite, sleep out on the shore, and paddle back to camp in the morning
for breakfast. Participants must be Swimmers. leaders must be trained
in Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat. Bring your own tents.
Recreational
Activities
Fishing is available for everyone! Local fishing guides tell us that
our marina cove is the best fishing location on the lake. Also available
are Sand Volleyball, Horseshoes, swimming, Blobbing, and volleyball.
