The best gun crews will serve the guns in battle, and provide artillery
fire support for the troopers during the battle reenactment.
We drill on carbines and cannons until you are ready to fight in a
battle reenactment.
We serve 1870's US Army food like hardtack and chili.

"Fall in, Trooper!" It's 1872. You're a new recruit. Now
step off that Red River steamboat and report to a U.S. Cavalry Regiment
on the Texas plains! You'll load your gear on a wagon and march up
the hill to our authentic Company area. Our sergeants will assign
tents, issue uniforms and equipment. The quartermaster sergeant will
serve you standard army rations, including chili or stew, peaches,
and real hardtack. Staff provide all meals at this outpost.
After supper, the Major will begin your training. You don't have much
time, so follow orders: "We'll have a fight on our hands, sure
'nough, in the morning!" You'll learn the safety procedures and
drills for our cavalry carbines and our Model 1841 Mountain Howitzers.
After dark you'll fire an evening salute with the cannons, and then
you're dismissed to report to the trading post and showers in the
main camp area, a short distance from our outpost.
You'll rise at dawn and wake the entire camp with a morning gun (or
two!) before a breakfast of eggs, bacon, and hardtack. Then you'll
drill again in cannon crews and skirmish lines. When your training
is complete and you're ready for action, you'll move out to engage
the enemy in a reenactment of a Texas frontier battle.

We'll
supply authentic cavalry uniforms (except boots and underwear!), cannons,
carbines, equipment, powder, tents and fun! SPLs and Crew leaders
are issued corporal's stripes and will serve as noncommissioned officers.
Our outpost site was used in the early 1870's by the 4th and 10th
Cavalry Regiments to extend the protection of nearby Fort Richardson.
