Lake Boyd Callan is one of the prettiest lakes you'll find in a Scout Camp. In 2004 we dredged 50+ years of silt buildup from the lake to improve trout habitat and our boating program. Over 1000 large dumptruck loads fo silt were removed!

The new Pool opened in 2005!

We have a dozen kayaks and 30 canoes.

Pioneering practice in the Baden Powell Patrol.

Archery Range

Sighting with the Anschutz Rifles.

A little fun with the swamping requirement in Canoeing MB Class.

Tahuaya Falls

Scouts walking past the new pool showers.

Taking a break at Lunch in the campsite

Camp Tahuaya is a beautiful, heavily forested 150 acre camp with the largest natural spring in Texas. Everything at Tahuaya is within easy walking distance. The camp has a rich lore of history. The sparkling springs attracted the camps and burial grounds of prehistoric Plainview Man, and later the Native Americans of several tribes. The Spanish Conquistadors built their forts and, according to legend, buried their gold here.

Texas settlers built a grinding mill and millrace whose ruins are now historic landmarks in the camp. The Old Military Road and the Shanklin Mill brought thousands of wagons to the spring, carving deep wheel ruts still visible in the stone by our lake. The stone fences, plentiful arrowheads, Military Road, and millrace ruins are visible reminders of Camp Tahuaya’s frontier heritage.

New Pool, Showerhouse, and Lake
We have upgraded Camp Tahuaya’s facilities to enhance the summer camp and weekend programs. Tahuaya has a large new pool and pool showerhouse and 70 year old Lake Boyd Callan has been dredged.

Baden Powell Program
Camp Tahuaya’s premier program. Our goal is to give your First Year Campers a FUN week that will help you inspire them to stay in Scouting and return to camp next year! We challenge your first year campers to learn the skills they need to pass the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class. The Baden Powell Program is a half–day program that is offered both in the morning and in the afternoon.

.

Camp Tahuaya Coup Stick
The Coup Stick is awarded daily to the Troop with the highest campsite inspection score. The unit is entitled to fly its unit flag on the central flagpole and to eat first. The winning Troop is expected to “improve” the Coup Stick each day. At the closing campfire on Friday the Coup Stick will be permanently awarded to the Troop with the highest total score for the week.

Special Events at Tahuaya
The BIG one is the Tahuaya dodgeball tournament! It’s VERY popular! There are also Camp Wide Games, Watermelon shootoff, Tahuaya Coup Stick award for best campsite inspections, Thursday night Parent’s Night Campfire, and others.

Playing in the shade under the big cottonswoods at the pool below Tahuaya falls is also very popular. The Goat Man Cave and the Old Shanklin Mill are also popular spots to check out
.
