Lake Boyd Callan is one of the prettiest lakes you'll find in a Scout Camp. In 2004 we dredged 50+ years of silt buildup from the lake to improve trout habitat and our boating program. Over 1000 large dumptruck loads fo silt were removed!

The new Pool opened in 2005!

The lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout and well-fed Smallmouth Bass and Sunfish.

Pioneering practice in the Baden Powell Patrol.

Archery Range

Sighting with the Anschutz Rifles.

A little fun with the swamping requirement in Canoeing MB Class.

Tahuaya Falls

Scouts walking past the new pool showers.

Taking a break at Lunch in the campsite

Camp Tahuaya is a beautiful, heavily forested 150 acre camp with the largest natural spring in Texas. The lake is stocked with trout. Tahuaya has a rich lore of history. Everything is within easy walking distance. The sparkling cold springs attracted the camps and burial grounds of prehistoric Plainview Man, and later Native Americans of several tribes. The Spanish Conquistadors built their forts and, according to legend, buried their gold here.

Texas settlers built a grinding mill and millrace whose ruins are now historic landmarks in the camp. The Old Military Road and the Shanklin Mill brought thousands of wagons to the spring, carving deep wheel ruts still visible in the stone by our lake. The stone fences, plentiful arrowheads, Military Road, and millrace ruins are visible reminders of Camp Tahuaya’s frontier heritage.

New Pool, Showers, & Lake Improvements
Tahuaya has a new pool and pool showerhouse. We removed 1000 large dumptruck loads of silt to deepen the lake. The lake is stocked with trout for summer camp.

Baden Powell Program
Camp Tahuaya’s First Year program. Our goal is to give your First Year Campers a FUN week that will help you inspire them to stay in Scouting and return to camp next year! We challenge your first year campers to learn the skills they need to pass the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class. Baden Powell is a half–day program offered both morning and afternoon.

Trout Fishing
Our cold spring-fed lake is stocked with Trout. Fly Fishing and Fishing Merit Badges are taught. Large populations of Smallmouth bass and blue gill hit flies too, as well as standard lures and baits. Fishing is off-limits except for summer camp participants.

Tahuaya Fly Fishing Week
Older boys can do a week of fly fishing training, fly tying instruction, and trout and bass fishing during the week of June 7-13 (only) at Camp Tahuaya with advance booking. This program is for individual Scouts and Venturers. The camp provides fly rods and equipment. Limit 20 participants. Contact Council Camping Chairman Scott Lindgren for info.

Railroading MB and G-Scale Trains
New G-Scale outdoor model train facility to help Scouts work on Railroading MB with the camp’s experienced instructor. Scouts can build and operate a large Garden Scale outdoor model railroad. Each Scout will build one G-Scale rail car or engine to keep.

Tahuaya Canoe & Caving Trek
Troops camping at Camp Tahuaya can send a crew of older boys and adults to paddle wilderness sections of the Llano and Colorado Rivers or Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Troops provide tents and camping gear, and your favorite backpacking or portable camp stoves. Camp Tahuaya staff will provide canoes, PFDs, paddles, and new 8000 cubic inch canoe drypacks for clothes and sleeping bags. Each person gets one pack. Troops must provide shuttle transportation for their group. Finish the Canoe Trek with a guided Caving Trip.
