Seven Rocks - one of many scenic camping areas on the Brazos.

We provide all canoes and paddling gear.

Five days of paddling and several side hikes into small riverside canyons.

It's fun!

Rock Jumping is always popular.

We provide 8000 cubic in. canoe drypacks.

It's a beautiful river.

There are good campsites all along the river. Sometimes we do as much swimming as paddling.

The Brazos River Canoe Trip is a High Adventure 50-mile canoe camping trip—a Worth Ranch tradition! You’ll spend your week of summer camp on the river, earn BSA’s 50 Miler award, and test your canoeing, camping, and fishing skills! We’ll do 4 miles of hiking and 47 miles paddling the scenic Brazos River from Possum Kingdom Dam to Oak’s Crossing, 8.5 miles downriver from Highway 180.

Any Troop, Varsity Team, Venture Crew, or Explorer Post may send a crew on the Brazos River Canoe Trip. Entire units may go. Units doing their summer camp at Camp Tahuaya or Sid Richardson Scout Ranch may send a crew to BRCT, but should make their own transportation arrangements to and from Worth Ranch for their canoeing group.

Crew Size
We recommend a crew size of 6 to 20 canoeists. If you are a small or “partial” crew, we will pair your crew with other small crews (sign up early!). Combined crews from multiple units are welcome.

Adult Leadership
Crews must have two adult leaders or combine with another crew to meet 2–deep leadership requirements. At least one must be 21, and at least one 18. All leaders must be Youth Protection trained (see our website for online Youth Protection Training). Coed crews must have coed leadership. Adults pay the same camp fees as youth.

Gear: What You Bring, What You Get
Your crew must provide your own tents and camping gear. Bring your favorite backpacking or two-burner portable camp stoves. The camp can furnish propane and propane stoves if requested. Other camping gear can be arranged if requested in advance.

The camp will provide 8000 cubic inch canoe drypacks for your clothes and sleeping bags and camping gear - one pack per person. All participants are strongly encouraged to pack light! Be sure to bring several heavy duty storage bags (trash compactor liners) to put inside the Granite Gear canoe backpacks, which are not waterproof. We also provide Hydrostick water cannons for water battles, plus all canoes, PFDs, paddles.

Canoe Trip Requirements
We recommend that Scout participants on the BRCT be at least 13 years old. The following are minimum requirements, which must be met in order to ensure a safe and fun experience:
1. Swimming Ability:
All participants must pass the swimmer’s test. The standard BSA Swimmer’s Test will be used to classify swimmers and determine those eligible to go on canoe trips.
2. Canoe Handling Ability:
Canoe trippers do not have to be “experts” before starting out. They should know the fundamentals of launching, paddling positions and strokes, general safety rules about wind and weather, loading and care of canoes, and canoeing safety.
3. Safety Afloat:
All users of Council canoes should be trained in safety afloat. Adults should be certified in Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat. (Available online)

Reservations
Units registering a crew for the BRCT must send a registration form and a deposit of $50 per person attending in order to confirm the reservation. Each individual High Adv. deposit reserves one slot in BRCT. Deposits are credited to your account as a part of your total camp fees; they are not an additional charge. Deposits are non-refundable. BRCT deposits are separate from deposits made for other camps. Reservations are first come–first served.

BRCT is a guided trip. Experienced Worth Ranch river staff will lead your trip and offer you a wide range of activities. In addition to canoeing, fishing, and low impact camping, Scouts can do merit badges on the river, including Canoeing and parts of Cooking, Camping, and Wilderness Survival. Expect lots of fun and great campfires along the way.

Shuttles
The camp coordinates shuttles of people, equipment, and vehicles to the put in and takeout. Units should be prepared to help with shuttles.
