Join us at one of our nationally-known high adventure programs.
Chisholm Trail Adventure Chisholm Trail is Texas High Adventure - a unique program for older youth and adults. It's a backpacking program using boats instead of boots. Use a pontoon boat for a week to travel to the high adventure outposts and water sports bases on our 15 miles of Lake Bridgeport shoreline! Troops and Crews from 43 states, England, and Scotland have come to Chisholm Trail. Must be 13 or older.
Wakeboarding Program Spend a week learning wakeboarding skills on Lake Bridgeport. Limited to 24. Must be 13.
Brazos River Canoe Trip. Spend your week of high adventure on the scenic Brazos River, earn your 50 Miler award, and test your canoeing, camping, and fishing skills. 3 miles of hiking and 47 miles of paddling on the Brazos.
Colorado River Canoe Trip. 50 mile canoeing and hiking trip on the scenic Colorado River west of Camp Tahuaya.

F-16 Flight Simulator, Technology, and Shooting Camp
Earn Aviation MB in our 16 new F-16 flight simulator cockpits and fly team-based air combat missions at our new flight center. Also choose from Space Exploration, Electricity, Electronics, Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, astronomy, and other merit badges. You'll also do "downed" pilot recovery and "escape and evade" night missions, as well as lots of swimming and fun!

Wakeboard Advanced School

Bring your Crew or send individual Venturers on a week-long high adventure trek at Chisholm Trail with the option to work on as much or as little Outdoor Bronze Award advancement as you would like to try. Staffed by Longhorn Council Venturing volunteers and the Texas High Adventure Base staff.

Tower Training and Recerts
Tower Training (& Recert. Class) 10-hour class designed to certify ADULTS to lead Tower climbing and rappelling activities for single units (This certification does NOT cover multi-unit activities). There is no class size limit, but pre-registration is required. Open to adults only. 8:00 a.m. to 6 PM – Must arrive on time.

At SR2. This course is designed to certify ADULTS to lead climbing and rappelling activities for their units on rock. There is no class size limit. Pre-registration is required. Open to adults only

Score-O
Score-O is map reading and problem solving in the woods. At SR2. LUNCH is included. More difficult Competition Maps. This is a more difficult Boy Scout and Venturing level Competition, with more difficult sport orienteering challenges for teams to solve. Map training is held all morning. For teams of Boy Scouts, Venturers, Varsity, Explorers, adults, and Webelos. Webelos must camp with a Troop.

Venturing Living History Weekend: Battle of Ogletree Gap, Copperas Cove Texas
The Ogletree Gap Heritage Festival is held just west of Copperas Cove each October and a small group of reenactors meet and conduct two battles on Saturday and one on Sunday. Saturday night there will be a period dance. Open to: Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venturers; must be 14 to participate. Venturers can work on their Living History requirements.

Haunted Hayride Spooks
If your Troop or Crew would like to camp at SR2 or Tahuaya in the month of October during a Fall Festival, bring your scariest costume and help us spook the Cubs on the Haunted Hayrides. Contact camping@longhorn.org to sign up. SR2 weekends: Oct. 13, 20, 27. Camp Tahuaya: Oct. 27.

The Games will be held on the same weekend as the Gathering of the Clans festival in Salado. Troops and Crews may camp at Tahuaya, participate in the morning Highland Games at Camp, and visit the nearby Highland Festival in the afternoon and evening. This event is open to Venturers, Boy Scouts, Varsity Team members, & adults. The Gathering of the Clans festival in Salado is a public event with a separate fee.

Venturing Living History Weekend: Battle of Liendo Plantation, Hempstead Texas
Liendo Plantation is one of the few reenactments in Texas with actual historic ties to the Civil War and one of the best attended reenactments in Texas. Open to: Boy Scouts, Varsity, and Venturers; must be 14. Venturers can work on their Living History requirements.

Check-in Dec. 26th 6 PM–9 PM,. Leave before noon Dec. 31st. Traditional Merit Badge Camp at Lakeview Lodge. Blacksmith Option: Learn the basic skills of a blacksmith in our historic Blacksmith Shop, and earn Metalworking MB. Living History Camp: 1872 U.S. Cavalry Outpost for youth age 13 and older. Cavalry Outpost includes authentic uniforms, food, and equipment, including 1870’s period cannons, carbines, and a gatling gun. Participate in a series of trainings and battle reenactments, including a large battle with local Civil War reenactment groups. Final night includes an overnight stay in the barracks at Fort Richardson, 20 miles west of SR2.

2013 Annual Council Banquet
The banquet will feature the great accomplishments of the volunteers in the Longhorn Council. Special presentations will include the Silver Beaver Awards given for outstanding service to youth in the Longhorn Council. Silver Beaver Award Nomination forms are due in the council office approximately one month before the event. Please note there will be a $5.00 fee assessed for vehicles parked at Will Rogers Memorial Center.
