POWDER HORN: Hands-On High Adventure Training for Troop & Crew Leaders

Powder Horn Training

Boy Scout and Venturing leaders all have a strong desire to provide challenging and fun outdoor high adventure programs to meet the needs of their older youth members, but may lack the knowledge and/or resources to do so.  Powder Horn responds to this quandary with a training opportunity that provides participants with the resources and contacts to deliver the promise of Scouting high adventure.

During Powder Horn, expert consultants demonstrate the skills required and explain where resources, such as equipment, facilities, guides, instructors, and certifications can be obtained locally.  But as a leader, you will move from hearing about the topics to actual hands-on experience - you’ll get to sample many of the activities yourself so you will know how much fun your crew or troop will be able to have.

We recruit an all-star staff of high adventure experts, outdoor vendors, and Scouters from all over Texas to guide you through the adventure!

Powder Horn 2011 is a resource course designed for Venturing and Boy Scout adult leaders, but older youth (>14) may attend with recommendation from their Crew Adviser or Scoutmaster and Course Director Approval.

When and Where:  Co-hosted by the Capitol Area Council and Longhorn Council, Powder Horn will be held September 9-11 and 23-25, 2011 at Camp Tahuaya in Belton.
