Send individual Venturers or the whole crew to earn the Outdoor Bronze Award and many of the requirements of the Ranger Award at the Road to Ranger Camp. July 11-17. See the Boys' Life magazine article and videos on Road to Ranger & High Adventure.
Send a group on a week-long high adventure trek at Chisholm Trail. Choose any High Adventure week.
High Adventure Option 3: Wakeboarding
Send individual Venturers to a week of Steele Island Wakeboarding OR Advanced Wakeboard School. Choose any week of Steele Island Wakeboard camp.

See the Chisholm Trail Adventure and Steele Island Wakeboarding pages for details on our outstanding Texas High Adventure Base programs. Venturing Crews and Boy Scout Troops from 43 states, England, Scotland, and Mexico have come to the Texas High Adventure Base.
Road to Ranger Camp
Road to Ranger (R2R) is built around the Outdoor Bronze award, the Ranger Award, and several Chisholm Trail Adventure outposts offering Living History, shooting sports, and watersports. R2R is a purely Venturing program - not merit badge classes with added requirements.
Road to Ranger programs are designed to help Venturers and Crew Advisors facilitate advancement to the Ranger Award. Venturers can earn the Outdoor Bronze Award and complete most of the Core requirements and many Electives for the Ranger Award. Crews can attend as a unit or individual Venturers can attend. R2R is Staffed by Venturing volunteers and Texas High Adventure Base staff.
Outdoor Bronze Award
To earn the Outdoor award, Venturers must complete at least four Ranger Award Core Requirements and two electives.
Ranger Award
To earn the Ranger Award, Venturers must complete all 8 Core requirements, and at least 4 electives.
Ranger Award Core Requirements
We will offer courses in all of the Ranger Award Core Requirements. Note that parts of some requirements must be earned before or after Road to Ranger Camp.
Cooking - All requirements can be completed.
Conservation - Being good stewards of the land is an integral part of Venturing. Each Venturer can plan & lead a conservation project.
First Aid - Complete the First Aid Core Requirement by taking a Basic First Aid or Wilderness First Aid Basics Course (extra cost).
Land Navigation - All requirements can be completed.
Leave No Trace - All requirements can be completed.
Wilderness Survival - Venturers are shipwrecked on a Lake Bridgeport island. All requirements can be completed.
Emergency Preparedness - Complete Req. A before camp.
Communications - Complete two of Req. A, B, or C before camp.
Ranger Award Electives Offered
Backpacking - Crews can elect to backpack into each outpost and complete 5 of the 9 requirements for this elective.
Equestrian - Complete 9 of the 10 requirements in this elective. There is an additional cost for this elective.
Fishing - Requirements 6 and 7 should be done in advance.
Mountaineering - Climb and rappel the cliffs at Devils’ Den and Hermits Cave. Complete requirement 9 at home with your crew.
Outdoor Living History - Contact us in advance for guidance on completing requirements 1-3 before camp. Living History choices are US Cavalry, Texas Rangers, and medieval Vikings.
 
Project COPE - Learn team building skills through the Challenge Course experience. Venturers can help staff two weekend COPE courses to complete this elective.
 
Shooting Sports - Complete the Shotgun or Rifle shooting disciplines to earn the Shooting Sports Elective.
Watercraft - Board Sailing option. Venturers should complete the basic boating safety course for Requirement 2 before camp.

Fees
Longhorn Council $240, Other Councils $250. Save $10 on all reservations made by April 30. Some programs have extra fees: Equestrian, Shooting Sports, Basic First Aid, Wilderness First Aid.
